As we move towards the mid-point of 2022, overcoming challenges seems to have become the overarching theme of these last two years. I firmly believe that these testing times will strengthen our resolve to do things better and allow us to appreciate what (and who) we have around us.

In spite of both the local and global challenges that our company continues to face, I look around at the team we have assembled at Millenium Roller Doors and I couldn’t be prouder to stand in the trenches with this incredible group of people. From our factory and office team to our installers who go out each and every day to service our clients, each team member strives for excellence while being accountable to the team for sales growth and customer satisfaction. It has been our unwavering commitment since our foundation in 2000 and will continue to be the bedrock of our ongoing success over the next few decades.

Making Inroads and Innovating in 2022

In my earlier Q1 message, I outlined a number of bold ambitions regarding new product innovations and digital upgrades to the MRD brand. We are delighted to have launched our own Fire Rated Door with certification successfully achieved for both 60 minute and 120-minute fire-resistance ratings.

Our company website has also been given a complete refresh to accurately reflect our growing portfolio of products and services which we offer to the residential, commercial and industrial markets. We are also delighted to extend our product offering through a new online shop which offers a combination of custom MRD products, alongside industry-leading Centurion Gate Motors and accessories. Refining our Operations to tackle spiralling Fuel Increases

It hasn’t been all “rosy amongst the rollers”, as we continue to feel the pressures of neverending fuel price increases! Ultimately, the rising cost of diesel has put an enormous strain on the cost of shipping raw materials to our factory floor in Johannesburg, for fabrication and finishing. With the economy returning to pre-pandemic levels of full capacity, and energy producers not able to keep up with global demand, it is an unfortunate reality which we will have to adapt to, in the coming weeks and months. 

Continued Expansion into the Retail and Commercial Landscape

Despite the petrol-pump induced woes that we have all been straddled with, there has been considerable company success achieved in 2022 with the successful awarding of projects in shopping malls and retail complexes across Gauteng and surrounding provinces.

In Gauteng, we have recently completed major roller shutter doors developments at Sam Ntuli Mall, (Katlehong), Castle Gate (Pretoria East) Builders Warehouse in Midrand, and the Johannesburg Taxi Rank.

In the North West, our Aluminium doors are a striking feature of the newly completed Thlabane Mall in Rustenburg. We are also currently fitting roller shutter door solutions in the ongoing construction of  Morena Mall in Mafikeng, which is nearing completion. 

In Mpumulanga, we supplied both external roller doors, along with retail fenestra and perforated doors at Ekhaya Mall in Secunda. We have also been appointed as the roller shutter doors supplier and installer for Ermelo’s regional shopping centre, Merino Mall, which is set to open in October 2022. 

We wrap up Q2 of this year by celebrating our biggest order to date on the African continent, with a deal finalised to provide roller shutter doors infrastructure for the Circle Mall in Lagos, Nigeria. The development is owned and managed by Lango Real Estate, with Monterosa as the contracting partner. It serves as a lucrative showcase of our innovative products in one of Africa’s leading commercial hubs, and a potential gateway to expansion in the West African market. 

Our Distribution Network extends Further South and Across Borders. 

Millenium Roller Doors is delighted to welcome Adams Doors as our newest distribution partner, based in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. With the Garden Route emerging as a key growth area for residential and commercial development in South Africa, we are excited about the collaborative opportunities of partnering with Adams Doors and offering the MRD quality guarantee to the Western Cape. 

Our company has also cemented a partnership with the Mahikeng branch of Glasfit. This allows the company to diversify their service offering beyond glass replacement and repair, by listing and supplying MRD’s leading range of roller shutter doors applications to the local industry. 

We have also established our first partnership in Botswana by joining forces with Fenestra Unlimited, extending our product offering and expertise across borders, and into the SSA region.

As a result of this successful partnership arrangement, we now have an established distribution network across six provinces.
