Millenium Roller Doors SA Unrest

Roller Doors under Siege, Part 2. – Ready to Rebuild

Just like the motion of roller doors, like an iron curtain, what goes up – must come down. Tensions rose to their tipping points before gradually returning back to gravity, and normality, this past week in SA. But we see factions all over the world that riot and protest all the time – each with their own agendas, ideologies and demands. In our previous Blog article, we outlined the devastating consequences of looting and destruction on physical property and livelihoods. In this follow-on article, we attempt to park our frustrations and elevate the spirit of Ubuntu, which sees the collective rise against the insurgent minority, to help to rebuild this fantastic and proud nation that we call ‘home’.

London, itself, saw a similar scene in 2011. But here, we witnessed six straight days of looting. Angry teenagers storming the streets. Parents everywhere, some dragging them back to their homes – proving that they were never too old for a spanking. People rioting in Europe, racial tensions overflowing in the US and smoke bellowing from malls is the stuff that makes the movies we thought they only made in Hollywood. No, we’re not trying to make fun of it. We are drawing focus to the point that these things happen all over the world, and trends everywhere are indicating that the days of victimhood mentality is finally showing signs of exhaustion. And with the N3 flowing freely by Sunday morning between Johannesburg and Durban – those areas hit hardest by the #UnrestSA attacks – have been hit hard, but have also received support in equal measure, from a very positive side.

Staying Positive

We choose to join in the age-old practice of smiling. Keeping chins up and enjoying this rebuild of the nation. Making conversation as we go and making new connections along the way. Manifesting a new future brick-by-brick ahead, and together. In our case, unrolling one Millennium Roller Doors at a time. Every moment of each day. Fortifying assets. If anything, the past two years have seen an awakening of kindness, compassion, and fortitude. The Bigger Picture, and what it’s all about.

Unity and Innovation

When people show their worst sides – their best comes out as well. When the spirit of humanity perseveres to take a stand and rise together whilst acting offensively, it reflects the selfless, humanitarian nature of the South African spirit that we are immensely proud of.

The great thing about roller shutter doors is that they close – fast! Protecting your assets in no time at all. Instantly and significantly reducing your chances of an attack and diverting focus to the unprotected enterprise next door. So let’s remember to honour those without an extra barrier of protection that made a plan to keep looters at bay. Let’s remember to share their stories too. Rather than dwell on the carnage of shattered roller doors across KZN and Gauteng, let us rather dwell on the following; the quick-thinking Shoprite owner with a nifty plan involving a few 5L bottles of Sunflower Oil. Or the taxi rank of Umtata that parked in parallel and union to protect the jobs they provide transport to at the Mall. Becoming the barrier. In a shield of their own – and Kwaito music. We salute you guys!
